Well, of course, as the legend goes, Atlantis was a prosperous city, nearly as advanced as the world today. With master scientists, great philosophers, and even machines capable of flying.
As the story goes, they began to find themselves more powerful than the gods, and the gods become angry.
In order to smite the Atlanteans for their bitter abuse and lack of respect for their power, the gods rise the seas and banish them to the depths of the ocean.
It's sometimes said that Atlantis is still under the ocean, thriving.

atlantis or at-lahn-teaus which translated from its root languange translates too city of the sea more specificly "the place where man meets sea" its important to know the word for sea of water is" teaus-at " the words for sea of sand is teaus-al" with out the modifier the word could translate either way to the city of the sea of sand or "the city of the sea of water. its important to also know that atlantieans were a predominantly coastal civilization till adiscovery by their greatest mind and leader which allowed for indiscrminant travel through the air over land and sea this allowed them to consturct a city that could travel through air serving as the root for legends like laputa and the city in the sky . now naming things is an important cultural trait of the inhabitants of atlahnteaus . for them to have left out an important language modifier in the naming of their city wouldbe intentional not accedental so if they used the word "teaus" with out the modifier "al" or "at" would play to the dual capabilities of being able to be in the ocean as an island of on land as a city specifically in sand as to facilitate the cities irregular underside they would just push the sand aside . so if the city were to "sink" it could be in either sand or water.this was acheived through flight. im inclined to go with sand over water due to the fact that the cities engines would be active in water to keep the city above the surface but on land the city would not need to engage the engines after landing. its also important to know that while atlahnteaus was technologically advanced they were not lacking in spirituality. they believed that the ultimate goal of science, the pursuit of truth, was in perfect harmony with the goals of their religious pursuit of enlightenment. im also in clined to believe that the sinking of the city was probably intentional due to their technological prowess being so proficient they would have had the ability to move the city from any and all threats so to sink the city in sand would be more effective than water knowing the their fellow humans would undoubtedly find it underwater but sand provides additional protection from the influence of others and atlahnteaus's influence on others . so i hope this gives you some insight onto atlahnteaus. ttyl
